Empower

Overcome

We host weekly programs where youth meet together to discuss their experiences as CIP. Providing a space for youth to have fun, share experiences, and learn from one another. PW believes in youth voice and the importance of youth sharing their experiences, allowing us to be a youth led internship/ program.

The effects of incarceration dont stop with the person who is incarcerated, it spills over to families, friends and the children and young people who are related to the incarcerated individual. Using different forms of art, youth write about their experiences start to heal from traumatic experiences.

Our Mission

The mission of Project WHAT! is to create safe, supportive communities for formerly incarcerated teens and teens with currently or formerly incarcerated loved ones across the nation. The goal of Project WHAT! is to create a community that encourages youth impacted by mass incarceration to use their voice, pride, and power. We empower these youth through leadership development in political advocacy, artistic expression, and essential life skills to sow the seeds of radical healing and systems change.

Our Vision

PW’s vision is to continue creating spaces for youth, rooted in community, in hopes that youth feel supported and well for. We hope that the work that we do continues to provide spaces for youth to be youth. We hope for the abolition of all punitive systems that create harm, and with spaces like PW, we will continue to fill in the gaps.

Project WHAT!

Creating a community that encourages children of incarcerated parents and formerly incarcerated youth to use their voice.
